About This Site

JC Ryle Preaching

The aim of this site is to expose Christians to the writings of J.C. Ryle by providing his Christ-Centered quotes Monday through Friday to stir your mind toward the glory of God.

The quotes that I place on this site have come from J.C. Ryle’s books, tracts and sermons. Whenever able, the book and page number will be linked under the quote giving you the option of purchasing the book. For other quotes I discover, a HT (“Hat Tip”) to the source will be provided.

Once again, the sole purpose of providing Ryle’s quotes is for the glory of God and the benefit of His church. May you be strengthened, convicted and encouraged by John Charles Ryle as he points you toward our Savior Jesus Christ.

I love the concept to your site. It is a great example of how a blog can be used effectively for the sake of the gospel. Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day.

    Erik,
May the Lord increase your labors.

Ryle’s works have been central in my study since the early 70′s. His “Expository Thoughts on the Gospels” were my close companions as a Naval chaplain in Asia, Europe, and Africa. I never preached a sermon from the Gospels without receiving instruction and exhortation from that godly man.

Ryle was one of my favourite authors early in my faith and one of my late wife’s favourite. She read his Old Paths numerously. Bless you for developing and maintaining this site!

Erik: Just found this site by accident, of such things are ever by accident. My home city was blessed to have Ryle as its first Bishop and I and a few friends annually gather around his grave for a memorial of 10 Bible readings and prayers in remembrance of the truth he worked for. I have most of Ryles works and it was though a reading of “Five Protestant Martyrs” that i more and it was through Ryles simple explanation of the Gospel that I was able to come to Christ.

If only the Church of England had more men of Ryles standing

      Ian,

Glad to hear you and your friends annually gather around Ryle’s grave to remember the truths he stood for. I agree…the Church of England need more men like Ryle’s caliber.

Here is a post I did on the anniversary of Ryle’s death, complete with pictures of his tombstone:

Ryle’s grave is in quite a sorry state and I wonder what he would have thought of the Anglican Cathedral given his views on such things, especially now with the candles, hangings, and other such things. I was brought up in one of Ryles Church (another St Nathaniels not Windsor) and that was very plane. It is so sad to see how the Church has fallen to idol worship and much worse
